- Purpose: To selectively enrich and promote the growth of Salmonella while inhibiting the growth of other bacteria.
- Composition: It contains ingredients that create a selective environment:
- Soya peptone: Provides essential nutrients.
- Magnesium chloride: Increases osmotic pressure.
- Malachite green: Inhibits the growth of most other bacteria, especially gram-positive ones.

- Potassium and sodium phosphates: Buffer the medium to maintain a stable pH.
- Sodium chloride: Helps maintain osmotic balance.
- Incubation: The standard incubation temperature is 42−43∘C42 minus 43 raised to the composed with power cap C42−43∘𝐶.
